FRIENDLESS CITY

FRIENDLESS CITY:

i feel stiff and frozen as
the cars arc like dolphins
through hoops of grisly light.
Reddish reeds sprout from the
streetcorners, filling the air
with the burnt musk of tinted
dreams.            Friendless beggars
seem to smelt in the lovelorn
heat as loaves of bread in
funereal windows cast the ghastly
look of gloated gruesome gluttony
onto the corners where the trams
pass by like ships. The buildings
just stand there like stunted trees,
all scarred and burnt out, many of
them greyer than the grime of a
suitecase filled with garnished eels.
School children resemble ugly elves
intent upon blistering with panic
the transparency of the windows
that see nought but lukewarm the
sufferings of offcoloured milk.
